Short answers about account deletion, shared stories, generated media, retention windows, and what happens when old content expires.

Account

How to delete your Hakaya account

Hakaya includes an in-app account deletion flow. Before deletion is confirmed, the app prepares a preview so you can see which private data will be removed and which shared story content will stay anonymized. If you cannot access the app, contact Support and request account deletion assistance.

Steps

  1. Open Hakaya and sign in to the account you want to delete.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Choose Delete Account.
  4. Review the deletion preview.
  5. Type DELETE MY ACCOUNT exactly as shown.
  6. Tap Delete my account and confirm.

Removed

  • Your profile identity, phone number, notification tokens, and private account fields.
  • Solo stories you own, along with their related media.
  • Private exports, private unused media, and unsubmitted drafts.
  • Your story access, pending turns, invitations, and notifications.

Preserved with identity removed

  • Submitted scenes in shared stories.
  • Submitted media that belongs to shared story contributions.
  • Shared stories where other people also participated.

Why shared scenes may remain

Hakaya stories are collaborative. If you contributed to a shared story, your submitted scene may remain as part of that shared work, but your identity is removed. Sensitive privacy, safety, legal, or policy cases should be sent through Support for review.

Cannot access the app?

If you cannot sign in or cannot reach the in-app deletion screen, open Support and request account deletion assistance. Include the phone number or account identifier you used for Hakaya so the request can be reviewed.

Retention

Delete and expiry policies

Hakaya separates “remove from my view,” “expired,” and “hard deleted.” This helps preserve shared stories while still cleaning up old private files and unused generated media.

Remove from my library

Removing a story or media item from your library hides it from your own view. It does not delete the underlying shared story, other players' access, generated media files, or exports.

Story expiry

Completed, cancelled, or inactive stories can enter a grace period. After the free retention window, stories may expire if no participant has preservation through Hakaya Plus.

Purging expired stories

Expired stories are not physically deleted immediately. A later purge window gives the system time to re-check preservation before hard deletion.

Generated media

Approved media attached to submitted story scenes is treated differently from unused media. Unused media can expire and later be purged if it is not preserved.

Exports

Story exports belong to the requester. Export cleanup is requester-specific and does not necessarily delete the underlying story.

Support review

Privacy, legal, safety, or sensitive-content removal requests can be reviewed through Support. Valid cases may be redacted by an admin workflow.

Retention timeline

90 days

Free story retention window for terminal stories before expiry eligibility.

180 days

Additional purge delay after story expiry before hard deletion is considered.

90 days

Expired unused media purge delay after unused media becomes expired.

Important distinction

Expiry blocks normal access and starts cleanup timing. It is not the same as immediate physical deletion. Hard deletion happens later through purge or confirmed account/story deletion paths.
